Our Story
Academy of Sound was founded in 2003 by Erin Chisman, though she began with her private piano studio years earlier. As more families in Oregon, Wisconsin, looked for lessons in a variety of instruments, that small studio grew into what is Academy of Sound today!
Our mission is to provide high-quality music education in a welcoming and supportive environment. We believe students learn best when they feel encouraged, respected, and excited about music.
We're proud to serve students of all ages, experience levels, and learning styles. Our teachers are carefully selected not only for their musical expertise but also for their ability to connect with students and foster a positive learning experience. Many of our instructors have been part of our Academy for more than 15 years.
At Academy of Sound, we hope every student feels at home. Our goal is to create a creative and inclusive space for music.
Meet The Owner
Academy of Sound has always been part of my life. My mom, Erin Chisman, founded the academy in 2003, so I quite literally grew up in its hallways. Watching her build a place where people of all ages and backgrounds could experience the joy of music inspired my own love of teaching and the arts.
After years of teaching and serving as Director of Education, I purchased Academy of Sound from my mom and officially became the owner in January 2025. I'm proud to continue the mission she started while also bringing new ideas to our community, including programs like our youth musicals, The Ensemble Experience, and Pop Star Show Choir.
As a woman-owned small business, every decision I make for the academy is personal. I care deeply about our students, families, and teachers and I strive to create a place where everyone feels welcomed and insipired. Music gave me a place where I could be creative and true to myself. My hope is that Academy of Sound can be that place for others, too. Every day, I get to hear music flowing through the halls, which reminds me why I do it all. There's nothing more rewarding than helping people discover a love of music.
