Private Lesson Details
Tuition & Registration Fees
Tuition varies based on your lesson day and the teacher's level of experience. Our designated Make-Up Lesson Weeks are included at no additional cost. We charge a flat monthly tuition. Students who enroll after a session has begun will receive prorated tuition based on their start date. An Annual Family Registration Fee of $65 per household is due upon enrollment. For students enrolling in the Summer Session only, the registration fee is $50 per household. For complete information about tuition, payment schedules, and what's included, please visit our Tuition Details page.
Lesson Materials
Your teacher will select any books, sheet music, or other materials needed for your lessons. We have most things already on hand and take care of ordering which ensures that all students are using the exact materials their teacher requires. Materials fees are added to your account. If you're not quite ready to purchase an instrument, we offer rental options. Contact our office to learn about availability and pricing.
Absences & Make Up Lessons
Just like gymnastics, dance, or swim lessons, your weekly lesson time is reserved exclusively for you. Your teacher is scheduled and compensated for that time whether or not you are able to attend. If you miss a lesson for any reason, you'll be eligible to schedule a make-up lesson during one of our designated Make-Up Lesson Weeks. We offer three make-up weeks each year:
-
At the end of Semester 1
-
At the end of Semester 2
-
At the end of our Summer Session
We do not offer additional make-up lessons outside of these designated weeks. This policy helps provide consistency for students and ensures our teachers' time is respected and valued.
Other Options
Online Lesson
If you're traveling, under the weather or for any other reason, you can always attend your lesson virtually by requesting a video call link through the office.
Asynchronous Video Lesson
Submit a video of what you've been working on before your scheduled lesson time. Your teacher will use your lesson time to review and send feedback, practice suggestions and next steps. Videos must be submitted before your scheduled lesson in order for your teacher to provide feedback during your reserved lesson time.
Lesson Swap
If another day in the same week could work for you/your student, you may submit a Lesson Swap Request Form. Our office will do our best to coordinate a swap, which may be with a different teacher depending on availability. Please note:
-
Lesson swaps must take place during the same week as your missed lesson.
-
If you'll be away for the entire week, we recommend choosing an online or asynchronous lesson instead.
-
Swap requests must be submitted at least five business days in advance, though earlier notice gives us the best chance of finding a swap.
-
While we'll make every effort to arrange a swap, we cannot guarantee one will be available.
What if I can no longer make my weekly lesson time work?
You can switch to any available opening at any time during the year, as many times as needed.
Teacher Absences and Weather Cancellations
If for any reason the teacher is unable to teach, most times we will provide a substitute. If no other teacher is available, a make-up time will be offered OR a credit will be given.
If weather or other emergency conditions require a change to our schedule, we will notify families by email, Facebook, and Instagram as soon as a decision has been made. When local schools close due to inclement weather, Academy of Sound will transition to online lessons. If you feel travel is unsafe from your location for any reason, you are always welcome to attend your lesson online.
Cancellation Policy
You have a six-week trial period once you've enrolled. This gives you adequate time to try private lessons. If you choose not to continue, just let us know before the sixth week and your enrollment will end with no further commitment. There will be no refunds for unused tuition. After the trial period, we consider your enrollment a commitment through the remainder of the current session. Playing an instrument is a long-term skill that grows through consistency. Committing to the full session gives you the best opportunity to make meaningful progress and have a sucessful experience.
